Behavioral Specialist - Part Time

Department: 064 - Supported Housing
Location: Citrus County, FL

FUNCTION: The employee in this position is responsible for providing intervention services in the form of screening, assessment, group and individual sessions with court ordered consumers. 



The Behavioral Specialist shall perform the following responsibilities without limitation.


1)     Perform outpatient intervention counseling

2)     Perform emergency screenings, assessments, interventions as needed

3)     Be knowledgeable of the Marchman Act

4)     Facilitate didactic group sessions

5)     Maintain open communication and respect with referral sources

6)     Promote substance abuse education in the community

7)     Adhere to intervention protocol as addressed in Chapter 65D-30

8)     Assist in networking resources and referral services for consumers

9)     Maintain center records in accordance with stated policies and procedures.

10)  Maintain consistency and accountability in consumer/contract reporting requirements.

11)  Maintain current all staff development requirements for this position.



The TASC behavioral specialist shall have a working knowledge of chemical dependency that includes AA/NA 12 step philosophy and prevention/intervention techniques. She/he must be familiar with the physical emotional characteristics associated with the chemical dependency.

5)     Performance Specific: Assessment, Consumer Focus, Empowerment/Advocacy, Psychosocial Intervention, Intervention Planning

JUDGMENT: Able to make sound, independent clinical decisions based on best practice standards, which demonstrate consumer-centered values. Must utilize judgment in a manner that will actively promote the Center through their actions and interactions with others.



Education: Bachelor Degree in Health and Human Services or related field


Experience: Two years experience working in the substance abuse or related field 


Personal Qualities: Initiative, dependability and accuracy are critical. Must be able to work with a minimum of direct supervision. 


Supervisory Responsibilities: None.


Special Factors: Must be able to produce a volume of work error free. Must be able to meet deadlines.  


Essential Functions: Ability to withstand high levels of stress. Ability to work at a fast pace under high degree of pressure from time and space constraints. Must be able to utilize critical and analytical thinking. Demonstrates a cooperative attitude to problem solving and conflict resolution with all levels of staff and in all interactions with families and outside professionals.


Staff Development: Be able to meet all staff development requirements as indicated on the Individual Training Plan.
