Department: 017 - Physicians - Adult
Location: Leesburg, FL

FUNCTION: Delivers psychiatric healthcare services to individuals in the inpatient and outpatient facilities and to determine the most appropriate level of care required. Under the supervision of the psychiatrist, this position is responsible for the psychiatric evaluation, treatment, emergency intervention and psychopharmacological treatment of clients of LifeStream Behavioral Center. Performs and/or assists in treatment/procedures as ordered by the psychiatrist. Accurately assesses client’s needs and prioritizes care. Develops effective client care plans. Documents service provision in an accurate and timely manner. 

RESPONSIBILITIES: Functions as a member of the multi-disciplinary team that develops and implements treatment plans and goals for all clients. Prescribes and monitors medications under the supervision of the Medical Director or covering physician. Provides tentative diagnosis for acute and chronic psychiatric disorders listed in the DSM-IV. Interacts with clients to establish a therapeutic relationship and facilitates achievement of treatment plan goals in accordance with the medical directives contained therein.

JUDGMENT: Ability to exercise good clinical judgment in potential crises. Demonstrates sound judgment during patient/family conflict situations, etc. Must utilize judgment in a manner that will actively promote the Center through their actions and interactions with others. Ability to make on the spot treatment decisions based on the client’s current mental/behavioral status, past functioning level and potential strengths and weaknesses. Ability to determine appropriate resources to meet the need of clients.

 JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education: Certification as an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner

Supervisory Responsibilities: None. 

Special Factors: Knowledge of comprehensive or holistic approach to client care is helpful. Must have a functional knowledge of the Baker and Marchman Acts. Excellent crisis intervention and conflict resolution skills are key to this position. Keeps supervisor advised of any problems, concerns or dissatisfactions related to the delivery of services.

Essential Function: Clinical skills in psychiatric and basic medical/surgical nursing and are fundamental to this position. Ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team is vital to satisfactory job performance. Demonstrates skills that ensure safe and effective client care. Demonstrates a cooperative attitude to problem solving and conflict resolution with all levels of staff and in all interactions with families and outside professionals. Actively collaborates with other Center service programs in implementation of the diversionary efforts to reduce admission to crisis stabilization units. Legible handwriting and good documentation skills are essential. Good verbal and written communications skills are fundamental to satisfactory job performance. 

Staff Development: Completes all administrative and competency training as identified in the Individual Training Plan.
